Group Activities:
Students will be working in groups to complete several of the assignments in this unit. From the cooperative Geopolitical Children's Book project, to the chapter deep dive activities involving the novel. Students will have many opportunities to learn and share with their peers.
Multi-sensory Activities:
Students will be supported by a variety of multi-sensory activities including a professionally recorded audio book of TTTC, both audio and Video presentations of Dear America: Letters from Vietnam, as well as songs from the era to express the anti-war sentiments.
Graphic Organizers:
Students will be using a variety of graphic organizers to help them organize their thoughts as they explore the socio-political aspects of the Vietnam war. Students will also be using a graphic organizer as they delve into TTTC, this organizer will be there to help them when they have to write an essay in class.
Vocabulary Development:
Students will participate in a creating a vocabulary pack (think word wall but like the packs the soldiers would carry) based on the vocabulary in TTTC. Using this word pack students will compete in a password style game to help review and cement the vocabulary.
Choice Assignment:
Students will have the opportunity to choose between a variety of options for their service learning project. Students will have options that suit their preferred learning style and needs. Each option is given guidance and support so students can be successful and take ownership of their learning.
