What is a Service Learning Project?
In this unit, the students will be required to complete a Service Learning Project. The project will require the students work outside of the classroom to discover more about the content through community service, involvement, or research. The goal of the service project is to encourage students to go beyond the classroom to find intrinsic motivation that will encourage them to learn more and be active about change through their own actions. To fulfill this requirement, students will choose one of the following Service Learning Project Types:
Direct Service:
If students choose to participate in Direct Service, they will be required to participate in a minimum required amount of volunteer hours at a local Veterans Affairs office or other local associations that aid veterans. Advocacy Service:
If the students choose to participate in Advocacy Service, they will be required to participate in a function or event that advocates for Veterans. This can include speaking at a local town hall, open house, city council meeting, etc. |
Indirect Service:
If students choose to participate in Indirect Service, they will be required to work on a fundraiser to help receive collections for the Veterans Affairs or other local associations that aid veterans. Research Service:
If the students choose to participate in Research Service, they will be required to find and interview a veteran that participated in a war (this does not have to be the Vietnam War). |
